NGC 1943 Lincoln wheat cent off-metal struck on a silver dime planchet. The coin is silver, and is struck on the 2.4 gram planchet of a dime. The dime planchet is smaller than a normal cent, which is why some of the outer lettering is missing portions of the letters. It is silver in appearance as well.

A very popular year for off-metals, and with an estimated 50 known for this date of cent on dime planchet.

The error occurred whena  silver dime planchet was fed into a press that was striking wheat cents and was struck, resulting in an off-metal. This can occur when a planchet bin is used for transporting dime planchets, and is not fully emptied, and then is used to transport cent planchets. The leftover dime planchets would then be fed into the cent press along with the cent planchets, and an off-metal would occur.

NGC G6 with nice gray surfaces.
