NGC 1953 Washington quarter struck on a nickel planchet. The coin is struck on the 5c planchet intended for a Jefferson nickel. Because of the smaller size of the nickel, some of the coin's outer design is missing. 

 

A rare date for quarters on nickel planchets, with an estimated 2-3 examples known.
