PCGS 1976 Jefferson nickel struck on a clad dime planchet. The coin is the weight and metal of a clad Roosevelt dime, but is struck with nickel dies. There are some cut marks in the planchet, which are pre-strike damage to the planchet (common on off-metals since they often get stuck in machinery as part of becoming an off-metal.)

The off-metal occurred when a dime planchet was fed into a press that was striking Jefferson nickels, and when the dime planchet was struck by the nickel dies, the result was an off-metal nickel on dime. A generally scarce error type.
