PCGS 1976-S Bicentennial quarter struck on a clad dime planchet, wrong planchet error. This incredible proof bicentennial quarter is struck on the much smaller planchet intended for striking into a dime. It is the weight and planchet of a dime, but is struck with the design of a quarter. Visually, the coin has great eye-appeal, with the proof surfaces and smaller planchet making for a superb wrong planchet error.

Proof wrong planchet errors are generally very scarce, with most of the types only a few dozen or so known. This particular proof quarter on a dime is very scarce, with only 3 known to us, including the present coin. One of the other examples is double-struck, while the other is similar to this piece.

PCGS PR68, with mirrored field and cameo devices, and pleasing light gold toning.
