NGC 1983-P Jefferson nickel transitional off-metal, struck on a bronze cent blank, with the coin struck on the copper cent blank for 1982 and prior Lincoln cents. The coin weighs 3.1 grams, and is the bronze alloy of a Lincoln cent of the 1982 and prior era.
This is a rare error type, and we can find records of only 4 examples known, with 3 of them being "P" Mint 1983 nickels on cents, and 1 being a 1983-D. A coin which does not often come available for sale!
A transitional off-metal nickel on cent occurs when a leftover cent planchet is accidentally fed into a press striking Jefferson nickels, and is struck, resulting in a coin which is not only a off-metal, but also is struck on a transitional metal from the prior year. A very unlikely error to occur.
MS63 Red/Brown, with pleasing, red/brown surfaces and nice eye-appeal.
