PCGS 1988 ASE struck thru reverse, with a large area of struck thru what was likely plastic. Pieces of plastic sometimes remain attached to the dies when they are installed in the press. The plastic is used to protect the surfaces of the die from rust, etc, but is supposed to be removed before they start striking coins.
