NGC 1920 buffalo nickel struck on a cent planchet. The coin weighs 3.1 grams and is the bronze metal of a cent. It is very different from a normal buffalo nickel, with the copper colored surfaces, and smaller size. 

The error occurred when a 1c planchet was accidentally fed into a press that was striking buffalo nickels, and was struck, creating an off-metal buffalo nickel on a cent planchet. One way this can occur is when a planchet bin is used to transport different types of planchets to minting presses in the mint. If the bin is not completely emptied of planchets, and another denomination is then used in the bin, the leftover planchets could be used with the proper planchets, and an off-metal can result.

This is a scarce off-metal type, and there are only about 75 known buffalo nickels on cent planchets. 1920 is, however, the most common date of this scarce error type, which means it also the least expensive and therefore affordable date.
