PCGS 1943 Lincoln wheat cent struck on a silver dime planchet. The coin is struck on the much smaller (than a cent) silver planchet intended for a Mercury dime, instead of the normal steel cent planchet. It is smaller than a normal cent, with the lettering somewhat weak around the rim, and also the coin is much lighter, weighing at about 2.5 grams.

This is a very popular year for errors, due to the 1 year only steel cent planchet used solely for 1943 cents. Interestingly, 1943 is also one of the most common years (but also the most popular) for wheat cents on silver dime planchets. Likely the more common nature of them is because the metal is more similar in appearance to a 1943 cent's steel color, than for any other year of "copper" cent. It would blend in with the other coins in a planchet bin or bag, and be harder for an eagle-eyed mint employee to spot.

The off-metal occurred when a silver dime planchet was fed into a press striking 1943 wheat cents and was struck with the dies, resulting in a coin with the design of a cent but the metal of a dime.

Because of the small gouge-like mark obverse, this coin is roughly half the price of a normal, problem-free example!

AU details, with a decent amount of luster, and light wear. There is a small "gouge" mark at 3 o'clock on the obverse. Not very obvious.
