PCGS 1943-S wheat cent struck on a silver dime planchet. The cent is struck on the silver planchet intended for striking into a dime, but instead was struck with the design of a wheat cent. 1943 was the only year that the U.S. Mint struck steel cents, and as a one year only metal, all off-metals for this year are more popular than any other year! Ex-Fred Weinberg Collection.

The error likely occurred when a dime planchet was accidentally left in a planchet bin which was then used for steel cent planchets. When the bin was emptied into the cent press, it was fed in along with all the steel cent planchets and was struck into an off-metal cent on a silver dime planchet.

Scarce, with a rough estimate of 50 known for this year.
