PCGS 1944 Lincoln wheat cent struck on a silver dime planchet. The coin is silver, and is the weigh of a silver Mercury dime, at 2.45 grams. Its silver surfaces make for a very obvious off-metal, compared to a normal copper cent.
This is a popular year for cent off-metals, because of the change back to "copper" from the "steel cent" alloy of 1943. Also, because of the 1944 steel cents, which are one of the most valuable mint errors. 1944 silver cents make a more affordable alternative to these expensive 1943/1944 off-metals!
A scarce date for wheat cents on dime planchets, with a total of 8 known for the year 1944. Of those, there are 7 circulated and 1 uncirculated. This is the 2nd finest known 1944 cent on dime planchet, being the only AU58 known! A good value in our opinion for the price.
AU-58 with light wear, and with mostly white surfaces, with just a hint of toning. A very minor scratch obverse, but not even noted on the holder. Somewhat weakly struck, as is common for cents on dime planchets, due to how thin they are compared to a cent. Nice luster on the coin's surfaces!
