PCGS 1964 Roosevelt dime deep obverse die cap, with a cap wall around the obverse design. The cap wall is high around much of the coin, and is dramatic in appearance. On the reverse side, there is a full brockage of the obverse, with a 2nd "1964" date, and much of the outer lettering, and with a enlarged portrait of Roosevelt in the central area.
Deep die caps are very scarce on silver dimes, and only a small number of them are known!
The error occurred when the coin was struck while on top of another, already struck dime, and the excessive pressure of the two planchets caused this one (the top one) to stick to the obverse die and become a "die cap." It then struck 1 or more incoming coins, causing it to wrap around the die neck. We'd estimate it struck 3 or 4 coins.
MS64 with original, multi-colored golden-brown toning.
