PCGS 1974-D Washington quarter struck on a cent planchet. The coin is an off-metal, struck on the bronze planchet of a Lincoln cent. The coin has red/coppery surfaces, and is dramatic in appearance. It is smaller than a normal quarter, and weighs around 3.1 grams, which is less than half the weight of a normal quarter.

The error occurred when a cent planchet was fed into a coining press that was striking quarters, and when it was struck, it had the design of a quarter but the planchet of a cent.

A generally scarce error type on quarters.
