NGC 1977-S proof Jefferson nickel struck on dime planchet. The coin is smaller than a normal nickel, and weighs only 2.3 grams (less than half the weight of a normal nickel.) It is smaller in diameter, with portions of the outer lettering missing.
Proof off-metals are very scarce. A rough estimate is 40 proof nickels on dime planchets are known.
