PCGS 1980-P Jefferson nickel struck on a cent planchet. The Jefferson nickel is struck on a Lincoln cent planchet, and as a result is bronze, and the weight of a cent. Also, portions of the design are missing, due to the smaller diameter of a cent planchet not allowing for the nickel's design to be fully visible.

This error type is dramatic in appearance due to the different color of the coin, being copper-alloy instead of the expected nickel-alloy. An error collection of these can be done by date and mintmark, with a collector seeking on for each date and mint of Jefferson nickel, or simply by acquiring an example of the error for an error type set.

The error likely occurred when a leftover Lincoln cent planchet was mixed into a bin of nickel planchets, and fed, along with the nickel planchets, into a nickel coining press. When the cent planchet was struck by the nickel dies, this off-metal was the result.
