PCGS 1981 Lincoln cent foldover strike, with the coin showing fold area and a small loop area as well. Foldover strikes are a scarce error type.
The error occurs when a planchet "spins on its edge" while on the lower die. When the hammer die comes down for the strike, it folds over onto itself, creading a foldover strike.
