PCGS 2003-P Arkansas quarter double-denomination, struck on a 2003-P Roosevelt dime. The coin shows the designs of both a dime and a quarter, with the dime's design visible under the quarter's. Some of the design can be seen from the dime on both the obverse and reverse, with portions of the letters and design visible. Also, the dime's reeded edge can be seen!
The error occurred when a 2003-P Roosevelt dime was fed into a press that was striking quarters, and was struck, resulting in this double-denomination "35c" piece, with the designs of both coins present, and also the coin is on the dime planchet.
An extremely rare error type on the state quarter series, with this coin being unique for the state "Arkansas." There are probably 5-8 double-denomination state quarters on dimes known. These do not come on the market often, and one shows up for sale in our estimation every 5-10 years.
PCGS MS61 with lustrous surfaces, and multi-colored toning. The coin is not graded properly, as there are some scuffs/scratches from a feeder finger underneath the strike (they are part of the error), but which PCGS counted against the coin, and gave it a grade of MS61. The coin was previously in an NGC MS64 holder, and we would grade it MS65 based on the pleasing, problem-free surfaces and lack of distracting marks.
