NGC 2016 Silver eagle with strong clashed dies on the obverse side, and minor clash marks on the reverse. The obverse shows large areas of the central reverse design elements.

Silver eagle clashed dies occur when a planchet fails to be inserted into the striking chamber, and the dies "strike" each other, transferring design from one die to the other. Because of the high quality control, clashed dies are scarce on silver eagles. This is the most available of the clashed die silver eagles, but is still scarce.
