PCGS 1976-D Washington quarter struck on a copper cent planchet. The bicentennial quarter is struck on the planchet intended for a Lincoln cent, which is a much smaller planchet at 3.1 grams, and also with a smaller diameter. It is copper, which creates a dramatic and eye-catching contrast when compared to a normal quarter.
Bicentennial quarters struck on cent planchets are generally scarce, with less than about 20 known for business strikes.
MS63 with mostly brown surfaces, but nice underlying luster. The coin has nice surfaces overall, with a gentle scrape on Washington hair area keeping it from a higher grade. Note: the minor white lines at 1 o'clock on the obverse of the holder are on the slab, not the coin.
