NGC 1943-S War nickel struck on a steel cent planchet. The coin is and off-metal, with the design of a nickel, but it is struck on the 1-year only steel Lincoln wheat cent planchet of 1943. The coin is smaller in size than a normal nickel, and is obviously "zinc coated steel" in appearance. A fairly scarce, and generally popular off-metal type for the nickel series.

The error occurred when a steel cent planchet was fed into a press that was striking nickels. When struck, the coin has the design of a nickel, but the planchet of a cent.

NGC XF details damaged. The coin has a few marks, but is a lot of coin for the "grade." The surfaces are original gray.
