NGC Proof 1977-S Jefferson nickel struck on a dime planchet. The coin is struck on the clad planchet of a dime, and is much smaller than a normal nickel, and weighs only 2.3 grams. Much smaller than a normal nickel, and with some of the outer lettering missing.

Proof off-metal nickels on dime planchets are scarce, although somewhat available. A rough estimate would be that around 40 proof nickels on dime planchets are known for all dates combined. Most are dated 1977-S, which is the "affordable" year for this error type.
