PCGS 1977-S proof Jefferson nickel off-metal struck on a clad dime planchet. The coin is the weight and metal of a dime, and is smaller than a normal nickel, with some of the outer lettering missing. Scarce as a proof off-metal nickel on dime planchet, although this is the most available year for proof nickel on dime planchets.

The planchet was intended for striking a proof Roosevelt dime, but was instead fed into a press that was striking nickels, and was struck, resulting in a proof nickel on dime planchet.

The coin is a high grade example, and scarcer as a result. White, lusterous surfaces and overall a superb example!

PR68 Deep Cameo, with mirrored fields and frosted devices.
