NGC 1982 1/2 Balboa struck over a 1982-S Washington silver commemorative coin. The coin shows very strong design details of the half balboa as well as the underlying 1982-S proof Washington silver commemorative half!

Very dramatic in appearance, and rare, with this being unique as an overstrike on the commemorative half. Other 1/2 balboas exist overstruck on Kennedy halves, and we'd estimate around 10 are known of that type.

The coin was likely custom made when it was struck, since the reading is "flattened" indicating whoever made it did not use a normal 1/2 balboa reeded edge collar. Circular marks around the edge indicate some sort of plain edge collar was use for striking the coin. An interesting an unusual double-denomination foreign over U.S.!

The coin is housed in a 3 coin NGC holder, with a "normal" 1982 balboa and 1982-S Washington half, which make for a superb display.

Note: the NGC insert tag is a bit loose in the holder and moves around the top of the holder.

MS69 with lustrous white, proof surfaces.
