PCGS 1984-D Lincoln cent with a fully unplated planchet. The coin is missing the copper plating on the obverse and reverse.
Fully unplated cents are eye-catching and popular due to the obvious difference in the coins' color, being zinc instead of copper in appearance.
The error occurred when the planchets did not receive a copper plating. Normally, zinc planchets are immersed in a bath of copper plating, and receive their coating of copper. Sometimes they either miss this step or the plating does not plate the planchets, resulting in this error type.
Uncirculated Details Environmental Damage. The coin has lustrous surfaces, but has a corrosion spot at 8 o'clock on the obverse, and some minor spotting on the reverse. Overall a pretty decent coin.
