Vinyl 2X2 PVC Flips Will Damage Your Coins

Vinyl 2X2 PVC Flips Will Damage Your Coins

Posted by JonSullivan on Apr 20th 2016

It is surprisingly how many people still use vinyl 2X2 coin flips to store their coins. Dealers and collectors alike are guilty of this, and the result are coins with a light hazy film of green PVC residue across the coin's surfaces, and sometimes even permanent damage to the coin. These PVC-coated coins have to be conserved in order to remove the damaging film of green. If you have any coins in soft plastic vinyl 2x2 coin clips, go buy a pack of the non-PVC flips from your coin supply dealer, and switch them out today! Here is an article on the effects of PVC by NCS (who does a great job removing PVC from coins, and we used them from time to time.) http://www.coinweek.com/dealers-companies/ncs-conservation-treating-pvc-residue/

At Sullivan Numismatics, all our coins are stored and sold in non-PVC flips, so if the coin came from us, it is in a safe, PVC-free flip.
